Looking for a fluent and experienced English-speaking psychologist/therapist in the greater Copenhagen area?
I offer therapy to English-speaking clients and expats living in Denmark with a particular focus on teenagers and adults. My clinic is located centrally in Helsingør (Elsinore) north of Copenhagen and has close access to public transport as it is placed almost next to Helsingør Train Station.
I have specialised in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which according to both Danish and international research, has a proven therapeutic effect. I have many years of therapeutic experience from both private practice and the public psychiatric system. I have worked and studied in the U.S.A. and Australia. I keep myself abreast of the latest techniques and research and receive regular supervision on my own work. You can thereby rest assured that you are receiving the best possible treatment.
It is essential for me that the therapy occurs in a safe and calm environment. Empathy and respect are core values for me and provide the basis for positive growth.
Sessions can be face-to-face, over encrypted video-call, over the phone or we can do a “walk’n talk” (if it is not raining).

Concessions
I do not take referrals from local doctors. However many people can get concessions through their private health insurance or sygeforsikring (health insurance)“danmark”.
Private health insurance
Many people are covered by private health insurance – possibly through their employer. It varies how many consultations the different insurance companies cover and whether they cover part of the cost or all of it. Contact your health insurance company to find out more. If your insurance covers less than 1300 DKK per session then you have to pay the difference. If you wish to use your private health insurance, please inform me at the first point of contact and bring proof of approval.
Sygeforsikringen “danmark”
If you are a member of sygeforsikring “danmark” (group 1, 2 and 5) then they will refund you 300 DKK per consultation if you fulfill their conditions. You can read more about the conditions of sygeforsikring “danmark” here. Please inform me if you are a member and I will apply electronically for your refund.
Recommendations
“The therapy sessions with Sabine have been very down to earth, easy going and helpful, cognitive therapy has helped me a lot with finding ways of coping with and fighting back certain problematic thoughts and evolve into a stronger person.”
Freya (client with OCD)
“Sabine was an absolute gem and I genuinely couldn’t recommend her more. On top of that, her English is outstanding so communication was flawless. 5 stars aren’t quite enough to rate this service.”
Joanne (client with anxiety and depression)
“After moving to Denmark, I was having issues with cultural differences which was contributing to my anxiety. I was so grateful to find Sabine Schrøder! She has such a strong command of English that I would forget she is Danish. I found her to be a very good listener without feeling judged. I thought her observations were very perceptive and insightful. She helped me by setting some realistic, weekly goals which I benefited from. I also found that my anxiousness was present when I had to fly alone. She was able to provide very practical tools to help me manage that anxiety. She has a broad wealth of knowledge and tools to help with life’s challenges. I always felt hopeful and encouraged after our sessions. In addition to her being a skilled psychologist, she was also helpful in dealing with inquires from my insurance provider. She used her own time to fill out material the insurance company was requesting. She allowed me to review everything before submitting to the insurance company so I knew our trust would not be violated. I would highly recommend Sabine!”
Tina (client with anxiety)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), also called Cognitive Therapy, addresses the problems people face in the here and now. In Cognitive Therapy there is a particular focus on thoughts (cognition) and our actions or behaviours, which often without us knowing, play a part in maintaining and perpetuating a problem.
In CBT it is important to identify the thoughts and actions that may act as a catalyst for our problems and hindrances. CBT provides techniques to help you handle the difficult situations you encounter in everyday life. With the help of Cognitive Therapy, you will be well equipped to break habits that are detrimental to your private and working life.
My experience is that many people get stuck in their attempts to control unwanted thoughts, feelings and physical discomfort. This struggle creates great suffering, frustration and hopelessness. Therefore I have specialised in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is one of the more recent developments within CBT. ACT is based on empirically-supported principles. In ACT focus is on developing techniques to detach from the struggle with thoughts and feelings and to gain greater psychological flexibility. In other words, the aim of ACT is to get less “caught” by difficult thoughts and feelings, reduce suffering and instead working toward living the life you wish to live.
The number of consultations necessary for a course of therapy is dependent on the individual and on the type of problem being addressed. For some, significant progress can be achieved after a small number of sessions, for others, a longer period may be required.
When we begin treatment we agree upon a framework for the consultations and set achievable and measurable goals for the therapy. We will regularly evaluate the therapy to make sure we are meeting your needs and wishes.
Mindfulness
If you are often distracted by concerns and worries, it could be useful to combine CBT with Mindfulness techniques. Mindfulness focuses on being “in the moment” rather than being occupied with thoughts about the past or future. It can, for example, be difficult being attentive towards your children or partner, when you are distracted by thoughts of tasks at work or concerns about the future. Mindfulness can offer a range of techniques and strategies enabling you to fully enjoy life.
